Biography and Research
Robert D. Biggs is a former Professor in Assyriology at the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago. He received his doctoral degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1962, on a thesis on Babylonian potency incantations supervised by W.G. Lambert. Following a year at the British School of Archaeology to Iraq in Baghdad, he took up a posiition as a researcher with the Chicago Assyrian Dictionary, heralding his more than forty years of affiliation with the Oriental Institute. He retired in 2004. A very insightful and entertaining account of his life as an Assyriologist has been recorded as part of the University of Chicago Oral History Project.
