Writing Materials were the physical implements used to write. These include the styluses that were pressed into clay tablets for cuneiform writing and writing boards. Writing boards were typically used from the 1st millennium onwards for writing in the Aramaic alphabet. This category is separate from the ‘Tablets’ category as tablets represent the finished product whereas writing materials are the tools by which writing is created.
